Job Summary

Performs skilled technical work in the installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) infrastructure. This includes traffic signal systems, fiber optic communications, network devices, CCTV cameras, vehicle detection systems, and other advanced transportation technologies.

Work involves field and shop responsibilities that require independent judgment, technical expertise, and adherence to safety standards. Work is performed under the direction of the Intelligent Transportation Systems Supervisor and is evaluated while in progress and during meetings, with results obtained.

Minimum Qualifications:

High school diploma or GED required and four (4) years of experience in traffic signal systems, ITS, telecommunications, or related field, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience required.

Required Certifications:

  • Valid Florida CDL Class “B”
  • Maintenance of Traffic (MOT) Certification (Intermediate or Advanced) in accordance with Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) standards.
  • International Municipal Signal Association (IMSA) Traffic Signal Technician Level II
  • IMSA Fiber Optics Technician certification within 12 months of hire.

May be required to respond to emergencies, work outside normal business hours, and operate in varying environmental conditions, including roadway traffic and confined spaces.

May be required to work nights, weekends, holidays, and on-call shifts.

If this posting indicates a degree is required, the following experience will apply in lieu of any degree as follows:

  • Two (2) years of direct experience for an associate degree;
  • Four (4) years of direct experience for a bachelor's degree;
  • Six (6) years of direct experience for a master's degree; or
  • Nine (9) years of direct experience for a doctoral degree.
