Job Summary
Performs skilled journeyman-level work operating, maintaining (preventive maintenance, repair and replacement), and installing various types of environmental controls (pneumatic, electric and electronic systems controlling temperature, humidity, flow, etc.), particularly Direct Digital Control (DDC) Energy Management Control Systems (EMCS). Provides technical support in the area of environmental controls and DDC EMCS to other employees in Plant Services. This entrance level class lies directly below that of HAR (Heating, Air Conditioning, and Refrigeration) Lead Worker and Foreperson.
Essential Functions
1. Performs skilled journeyman-level work in the operation, maintenance and installation of various types of environmental control and DDC EMCS equipment which interface with building mechanical and electrical systems (chillers, boilers, pumps, air handling units, lighting, etc.).
2. Determines control sequences, selects appropriate hardware components and reviews and modifies software for DDC EMCS.
3. Maintains records and submits reports covering equipment, materials, costs and contracted EMCS maintenance services.
4. Operates a motor vehicle in performance of duties
5. Performs other duties as assigned.
Probation: Six (6) months
Qualifications
Open Requirements: Must have had at least five (5) years of experience as an environmental controls and direct digital control energy management control systems technician.
Promotional Requirements: NA
Licensing/Certification/Registration: A valid Florida Driver's license is required prior to appointment and must be maintained during employment in this class
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs)

- Thorough knowledge of the practices, methods, equipment, materials and tools involved in the operation, maintenance and installation of various types of environmental controls and DDC EMCS which interface with building mechanical and electrical systems
- Thorough knowledge of the operation and interrelationship of building mechanical systems (chillers, boilers, pumps, air handling units, unit ventilators, etc.)
- Thorough knowledge in the application of and skill in the use of personal computers, DOS and local area networks (LAB) and software as related to DDC EMCS
- Thorough knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions of the work
- Thorough knowledge of energy management principles
- Strong math skills in addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division
- Basic oral, written, and interpersonal skills
- Ability to read and develop controls schematics and technical manuals
- Ability to oversee and train others on the functions of the EMCS
- Ability to operate a motor vehicle
